It’s Not As Hard As You Think

How many times have we wondered or had someone say: What is God’s Will? Well it’s not as hard as we might think! We tend to think that God has to supernaturally come down and reveal Himself or give us some sign for us to know and do His will. However, there are several verses that make it clear as to what God’s Will is. Look these over and consider what God is saying.

16 Rejoice always; 17 pray without ceasing; 18 in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; 1 Thessalonians 4:3

Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:1-2

The passages above seem to indicate clearly what knowing and doing God’s Will would look like in everyday terms. Things like rejoicing, praying, being thankful, being set apart, refraining from sexual immorality, giving ourselves completely to God, renewing our minds with scripture, are all things we can presently and actively do if we choose. Sure there may be other things God wants us to specifically do but my question would be: “are we doing these things?” Sometimes the specific things won’t be revealed until we do the general things God wants all of us to do.

Knowing God’s Will isn’t as hard as you might think. Doing His Will on the other hand could be a challenge but with Holy Spirit’s help and submission of our Will to His, we can most certainly accomplish it!

Actions to consider:

Rejoicing, praying and giving thanks. Start a journal where you record three things each day: something to rejoice over, something to pray about and something to give thanks for.

Set some boundaries for your life. Consider standards God wants you to adopt for being “set apart” from the world. This may include what you watch, listen to, think about, wear or places you go that could cause you to stumble or fall into immorality. You have to draw some lines that you’re not willing to cross.

Memorize scripture. Find some Bible verses you can work on and commit one to memory each week. This will assist in renewing your mind.
