“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.”
Hebrews 11:8 ESV

Abraham was called to leave his family and country. Everything he was comfortable with he chose to leave behind to follow the call of God. This alone could be a very hard thing to do even when one knows the destination. However, Abraham was asked to leave not knowing where he was going. God did not give him any details about the destination. All Abraham got was the fact.
What Abraham did was the picture of faith. He stepped out in obedience not knowing how everything was going to work out. Abraham listened more to real reality than reason. No matter how convincing other arguments and reasons may be to not follow Jesus, we must push them aside and be willing to leave everything behind out of obedience when the Lord calls.
Faith isn’t about a destination as much as it is about a person. Can the Lord be fully trusted? The Lord calls us to abandon every affection that is less than Him. It’s not that He wants us to hate our families but just to be fully devoted to Him. The Lord called Abraham to leave his country because God wanted to bring him to a different one. We can only have an allegiance to one country. In this new country, Abraham would have more family than he ever dreamt.
How is God calling you out?
How does your trust in the Lord need to grow?
