I may look around but I need to listen up. God uses different things to get my attention but if I am not careful I may miss what He is saying. Listening around there are many different sounds and voices that seek to speak into and about my life. Not all of these sounds or voices are bad but they are also not God. It is vitally important to be listening up for God’s voice. The best way to hear God is to silence as much noise as possible. When I am not able to do that, listen up. Paying closer attention to God’s written word when I am not able to discern what God is whispering in my soul will help me decipher and bring clarity to the decisions and path I need to take.
Listening up means I need to lay aside preconceived notions of what I should do. Instead of looking around in comparison to all others are doing, I must heed the voice from above. When Jesus was baptized and when He was on the mount of transfiguration, God’s voice came from above announcing His good pleasure( Matthew 3:17, Matthew 17:5). There’s only one voice that matters. Jesus had come to do the will of the Father. There was only one opinion that mattered. Be listening up for His pleasure today.
How much attention are you putting on what you see from God as opposed to what you hear?
How does listening require more faith?
Whose approval and appreciation are you seeking? People or the Lord?
What does listening up look like for you?
