The Abundant Life

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

‭‭John‬ ‭10:10‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Jesus clearly states that He came to give all who follow Him an abundant life. However, it is important to remember that this life is contingent on the “sheep” following Him. Living in an age of entitlement makes this reality hard to swallow at times but Jesus does not promise “abundance” to those who are not following Him. God is good and offers the general blessing of life to all but an abundant life is only offered to those who are following Jesus.

Abundance in this sense of the word is not tied to prosperity necessarily, (although for some that definition may apply as God is the One who determines how we are blessed with prosperity). The word abundance also carries the deeper definition of meaning and purpose. Jesus came living with intention and purpose and offers that same abundant living of knowing God and fulfilling His plan for all who follow Him.

Abundant living goes beyond the physical blessings of things/gains to a satisfying contentment of fulfilling our life purpose.

How do you view an abundant life?

Do you feel like you are living an abundant life? Or feel entitled in some way?

Could you state your life purpose and meaning? What would you say brings you meaning and purpose in life and glory to God?
