Exodus 33-35

Exodus 33-35God told Moses to go up and take the land because He would give it to them. He was going to send His angel ahead of them to fight for them. Then God says He wouldn’t go up with them because they El were rebellious people.

Moses pitched a tent outside of the camp and that was where he would meet with the Lord. He would go out of the camp and people would watch until he went inside the tent. The Lord would come down in a pillar of cloud and talk with Moses face to face. Moses converses with God about His traveling with the people.
Moses also says that if God is not going to go then He isn’t going. He is committed to being with the Lord, not just getting the Promise.

Moses makes a odd request. Even though he is talking with God and has a special relationship with God, He wants more. He asks to see God’s glory. But God tells him that no one can see God and live. So God tells him that He will put him in a cave and then cover him while He passes by. Then Moses can see God from behind.

Exodus 34 God tells Moses to cut out two new tablets and God re-writes the commandments. As God comes down He makes His character known to Moses \”The Lord passed by before him and proclaimed: \”The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, and abounding in loyal love and faithfulness, keeping loyal love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin. But he by no means leaves the guilty unpunished, responding to the transgression of fathers by dealing with children and children’s children, to the third and fourth generation. Exodus 34:6-7

God gives them instructions on how they are to live and not to intermarry with other nations because it would draw their hearts from Him.
God also establishes that every first born belongs to Him. He says that donkeys can be redeemed but if not their necks are to be broken. He also says that every first born son must be redeemed. This is important because when Jesus was taken to the Temple, He wasn’t redeemed…which points to the fact that He was the sacrifice unto God.

Moses spent so much time with God that his face began to show God’s glory. It happened just because he was in God’s presence. This is interesting because it goes to show that we don’t have to make ourselves “spiritual”. We simply need to spend time with God in worship and it will show up on our faces. People will know we have been with God without us having to say anything.

Exodus 35 God gives details about the Sabbath and also about they are to work and give. In building the tabernacle, each person was simply to give what they wanted to contribute. Some gave the items while others crafted what was needed from them. There were certain people that had special skills that God had already prepared to do the special work.

In the same way God wants us to give freely to His work. He wants us to employ our own skills and talents for His purposes. We also must recognize that God gifts people as He desires for His work. We shouldn’t be jealous or envious of another’s talent. We should celebrate God who has given all talents and skills as He wants.
