Focused Obedience

“This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”

‭‭1 John‬ ‭1:5-7‬ ‭ESV‬‬

There are times when nothing may make sense other than simple obedience. Whether the command is go or be still, the disciple must answer to no one else but the Lord. If I am waiting for people’s approval it may never come; the only one I need to please is the Lord. I will account for every act of

obedience and disobedience in my life, not anyone else.

Resurrection awareness leads to obedience. When I am fully aware that Christ is alive and He is living within, obedience is not an issue. It is only when I become more concerned about others’ opinions that Christ is pushed back into the darkness of the grave in my life.

Doing things out of obligation or duty is not what the Lord wants. I am to stay so connected to Him that following Him is my joy. When connected to Christ, the obedience will be natural, as a vine bears more fruit when connected to the roots. When life becomes duty and routine, I have lost the resurrection awareness of Christ somewhere along the way. I must get back to Him and walk in His Light as He has given me Light.

Living a life of obedience is not optional for the disciple. When I obey the Light I have been given more Light will become obvious. As I walk in His Light, life comes more into focus and the only focus is Christ.

What is your focus lately?

How have others’ opinions affected your obedience?

What “light” has Christ given you to walk in?

Are you living in the resurrection awareness of Christ?
