Crossroads

“”If you return, O Israel, declares the Lord, to me you should return. If you remove your detestable things from my presence, and do not waver,”

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭4:1‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“Thus says the Lord: “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’”

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭6:16‬ ‭ESV‬‬

There is an intersection in life where decisions are made that set us on the course for the rest of our lives. Whatever I do, I want to make sure I am on the path that leads to life! God never intends for anyone to live a mediocre life. Jesus didn’t die that so that I live an insignificant, meaningless life. He died to give me purpose and meaning beyond this life.

God always has a plan for His child…but so does the evil one have a plan. The crossroads of life remind me that there is always a choice involved in what plan gets enacted. I am always responsible for my own choices. To make the right choices I must continually bring myself and my options before God. Left to myself, I will most likely choose the path of least resistance. Choosing the path of least resistance leads to a life of meaninglessness and insignificance.

Yet if I choose God’s path and plan, it will sometimes feel like the hardest choice ever made but this is only because of the deep rooted sinful nature that abhors everything of God. I must wrestle out self and bring it into the submission of God’s authority. God’s path and plan always lead to life and more life but not without death to self. Jesus has already died to ensure eternal life. Now I must die to have that eternal life in the here and now.

What crossroads are you at?

Which path are you tempted to take that is the easy way out?

How is God calling you to more?

What areas of life do you need to wrestle out with God before the new year?

Are you living a mediocre life? Or is your life full of meaning and purpose?
