Psalm 90:11-16

Passage:

“Who can comprehend the power of your anger? Your wrath is as awesome as the fear you deserve. Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom. O Lord, come back to us! How long will you delay? Take pity on your servants! Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives. Give us gladness in proportion to our former misery! Replace the evil years with good. Let us, your servants, see you work again; let our children see your glory. And may the Lord our God show us his approval and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful!”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭90:11-17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Paraphrase:

Can anyone fully understand the amount of powerful anger you posses? You should be feared because of your wrath alone! Make us aware of how short life is so that we may act accordingly, knowing we will stand before you one day. Lord, come back to us, don’t withdraw. Be mindful of our humanness and renew us each morning that our mortal mouths may praise you. Let our hearts rejoice once again because of your unfailing love and let our rejoicing be in response to how you’ve carried us this far. Start fresh with us God and do away with the past. Let the next generation have much to show and tell about your glorious works among us. Bless everything we do, Lord, bless everything we do!

Premise:

God is a God of wrath and to be feared greater than anyone. That should be enough to cause me to worship him. Also knowing that I will give an account to Him one day should cause my heart to fear. Sin is what causes God to be angry. He withdraws from sin because He is holy.

When there is repentance God renews my relationship and begins to bless again. Generations can have a lot of things to remember about my walk with God when He blesses the work of my hands.

Principle:

God is a God of wrath and He hates sin.

Fearing and living in conscious awareness of God is important.

Life is short so live it well.

Only God can bless the work of my hands.

Ponder:

How is my fear of God?

Am I aware of the brevity of life?

How has God blessed my life and the work of my hands?

Am I living as a blessing to Him and others?

Practice:

Be conscious of God’s presence.

Seek God’s blessing in all I do.

Make the most of each day.

Prayer:

Dear God, you are an awesome God and greatly to be feared. You displayed your great hatred of sin when Jesus died on the cross for it. His death also showed your great love for me. Help me God to not take Jesus’ death too lightly. Forgive me of my sin and restore a right relationship with me. Renew my zeal and fervor for you and bless everything I do in your name.
