Peace

Passage:

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:6-7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Paraphrase:

Don’t be worried about a thing. Instead take everything to God through praying and crying out to Him continually. Be thankful that you have a God who hears and cares! God will give you peace that doesn’t make sense which will protect your hearts and minds from fear and doubts through Christ who died for you.

Premise:

Being thankful for the peace of God is important. Through Jesus I have been granted peace with God. The hostility that was once caused by sin is no longer there. Now I can enjoy a relationship with God that brings hope and peace to my life.

The relationship with Jesus affords me the opportunity to lay my burdens into Him and experience peace in my everyday life. I don’t have to carry burdens alone or fear the future. Jesus has not only become my sacrifice for sin but my Comforter in this life. His comfort gives me peace that no one else can give.

Ponder:

How much do I worry?

Do I try to control things?

What peace have I experienced?

What does trusting my burdens with Christ look like?

Principle:

Peace comes as I pray and give my burdens to Christ.

Gratitude is part of praying.

When you make requests be sure to show gratitude for what has already been done.

Peace is a gift from God and an answer to prayer.

Promise:

Peace is promised to those who come to Christ in prayer and supplication with their burdens in faith.

Practice:

Thank God for what He has done and for the peace you experience.

When burdens and worries mount, spend time praying and giving thanks for all that you already have.

Remember that worry is a control issue and you must let God be in control. Peace comes when we release control. There is peace in the release.

Prayer:

Dear Lord thank you for the gift of peace you have promised to all who trust in you. Help me as I deal with the small worries and larger burdens of my day to trust you with each one. I ask for your peace and hope to fill my heart and mind and keep me close to your side.
