“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.”

Paraphrase:
You have received the Spirit from God, not a spirit of this world. Holy Spirit gives you wisdom to know the things of God and how to use the knowledge God gives.
Premise:
What you know and how you use it is considered wisdom. Wisdom is generally thought of as exercising good judgement. There are two kinds of wisdom: godly and worldly. Godly wisdom only comes from God, whereas worldly wisdom comes from all sorts of avenues: people, creation, experiences. There are things about God that only a person walking with God can know. Wisdom, real, godly wisdom, can only be received from God. The more time we spend with God, praying and studying His Word, the more God will reveal to us about Himself. We don’t just figure God out on our own: God reveals Himself to us. The knowledge of God leads us to the wisdom of God, which in effect is how we interact with God and deal with others. Learning how to use our spiritual gifts and how to operate in this world requires wisdom that can only come from God. Some examples of exercising wisdom could be in the form of being able to discern what to say, how to say it, what to do in a given situation, how to love the unlovable or how to handle a temptation or problem area of life. When we are given insight, understanding i.e. wisdom, about any of these things, it is important to give thanks to God because that’s where it all came from.
Principle:
God has given me His Spirit that I might have wisdom in this world.
True godly wisdom only comes from God.
God wants me to be wise and make the best decisions, which is only possible by practicing His wisdom.
Promise:
Because I have the Spirit of God, I can live in wisdom and accomplish what God wants.
Practice:
Learn the scripture and apply it to my life.
Listen to the Spirit of God and obey what the Lord says.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, thank you for the wisdom you have given me. Thank you for your Spirit who lives within and guides me into all Truth and Wisdom. Thank you for providing such guidance so that I don’t have to rely on others’ opinions or experiences to make decisions, since I have been given the mind of Christ.
