Passage:

“At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.”

Paraphrase:

It was about that time that the disciples came tonhim asking a pretty serious question: “who is going to be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” Jesus responded by saying: “ All of you can be sure of this that no one will enter into the kingdom of heaven unless they come in like a little child, with humility and wonder. (Jesus has called a child to him to illustrate the point). Whoever will care for a child like this one, in my name, does exactly the kind of thing that is important in the kingdom.

Principle:

humility is a kingdom value.

God treasures the wonder and humility of children. When we come to Him in wonder and delight in learning from Him He teaches us and even elevates us to places of influence to reach others.

Children are important to God and should be important to us. We should give careful attention to the children we are surround by.

Ponder:

How is my humility? Am I serving others with humility?

Do I have a childlike faith?

How do I treat children around me?

What if God treated me like I treat the kids around me?

Practice:

Serve others with humility, even children.

Take childlike steps of faith. Dare to dream God’s dreams for myself and believe He can do it!

Prayer:

Lord forgive me for forgetting to have a childlike faith, believing that you can do anything and everything. Help me to have the humility I need to love well and lead well because humility is important in your kingdom. Guide me today as serve and live and help me to seek tononly make your name great.
