He . . . said to them, ’Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem . . . ’ —Luke 18:31
For the Christian, there is but one goal: Jesus! Whatever Jesus wants, whatever He says…this is the goal. It’s not about my ambition or what I feel is important to Jesus or my “usefulness” to Him. It is strictly about obeying Him in what He says for me at any given time.
As hard as it may be to believe, some things have to die according to God’s Will. Jesus made that hard and terrible trek up to Jerusalem to die. His face was set as flint and his heart as determined as fire not to deter or detour from this course chosen by His Father.
In the same way, I must be resolute in my life. I have to know what I am after and continue unpersuaded by any other cause than the glory of God. Jesus finds Jerusalem to be the place where death ensues. Shall it be any different for me, his disciple? No.
However, as the Lord was resurrected, I too shall be resurrected once I lay down in death spiritually. I shall become alive and free, able to fulfill God’s intention and purpose for my life. What seems to be and end is really only the beginning. What is a cross where one may hang is also a cross where one may pass but that pass must go through “Jerusalem”.
