Hello Everyone,
I’m trying to move in a more intentional direction of making disciples. Could you help me by filling out a quick survey? Here is the link: Discipleship Survey.
Last night, I was part of a Men’s Bible study. One of the things that struck me from our conversation was the reality that many people, (not just men) within the big “C” Church may not be engaged in a discipleship relationship or have connections with people they trust to help encourage and engage in spiritual conversations. For me, I have been in a few of discipleship relationships that were very formative for me when I was younger. Many of the things I do now as a Christian for spiritual growth were developed through those relationships.
However, because of time, schedules, life, and any number of other variables, many Christians today find themselves floundering in life. It seems that many are not engaged in life-giving discipleship relationships…am I wrong? Isn’t this life in Christ supposed to be a life that is life to the full, according to Jesus (John 10:10)? Moreover, aren’t we even commanded to make disciples and be involved in these kind of relationships by Jesus Himself (Matthew 28:18-20)? And yet so few are.
Is this because of people not wanting to be engaged? Is it because people don’t know how? Is it because there is no trust or commitment to these kind of formative relationships? What are some of your thoughts?
