Impossibilities?

Passage:

“And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. For nothing will be impossible with God.””

Paraphrase:

Mary said to the Angel messenger: “I’m a virgin and have remained pure. This is an impossible thing you are telling me.” The Angel messenger replied back: “Exactly! In fact, Holy Spirit is going to come over you and by His power you will become pregnant with a child, Who will be the Son of the Most High God. Another sign for you in impossibilities is that your cousin, Elizabeth, is also 6 months pregnant with her own child. Everyone knows she’s been barren all these years and is now too old to be giving birth…and yet she is! The things you think are impossible are not so for God.”

Premise:

God chose Mary to carry and bring forth Jesus, His only son. Mary was a willing vessel even though she didn’t fully understand how it was all going to work out. Even her cousin Elizabeth had her own miracle taking place. Both had strange things happening in their lives at times that didn’t seem right or opportune. Nonetheless, God intervened and did something that showed His power and ability in and through “impossiblities”.

Ponder:

What seems like the wrong timing for you?

What seems like an impossibility for you?

How has God chosen to bless you with something that doesn’t seem to be a good fit for now?

How is God trying to bring a blessing through you?

Principle:

Nothing is impossible for God.

God’s timing and choosing are based upon His wisdom and knowledge.

What God determines as the right time doesn’t always seem right to us.

God is more interested in Jesus being “birthed” in us than our own plans for life.

Practice:

Bring what seems to be impossibilities before God and let Him work as He wishes.

Look for the miracles God is doing in and around me.

Let God do what He desires even if it seems impossible, simply yield to His plan.

Prayer:

Dear God, sometimes what you want to do isn’t always understandable to me. I can’t always see how it’s going to work out. Help me to be like Mary and Elizabeth and accept your intervention in my life. I ask that you would continue to birth new things in and through my life even as I grow older. Help me to always rely upon and trust in your power and not my own. Whatever you say will happen regardless of how impossible it seems. Give me courage to trust you no matter how crazy and unexplainable it is. You are God!
