“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. As it is written, “He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.” He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God.”
2 Corinthians 9:6-12 ESV
Here’s what it all comes down to: if you don’t invest very much, how can you expect very much in return? The one who invests a lot gains a lot in return, when the time comes. Don’t give out of obligation or compulsion; give out of your heart, whatever it is you’ve decided ahead of time because God wants you to give cheerfully. God is able to bless you richly in every way so that you won’t even miss what you’ve given. It’s been said before: “God gives freely, He gives to the poor and His righteousness will endure forever.” The one who gives the very breath to work, also supplies the bread you eat, and He will give you more than what you give so that your righteousness will increase. God gives you more so that you have more to give. And those who benefit from your giving will give praise to our God for it. So just to be clear, your giving doesn’t just meet needs it brings praise to God.
We have what we have to be a blessing to others and meet needs. However, we must choose to use what we have for God’s Kingdom. We are not to be selfish but to give generously to those around us, which will not only meet hero needs but bring praise to God.
We get so that we can give to others.
The more we invest the more we will reap.
God trusts us with more when we demonstrate that we will use it wisely.
How much am I investing in eternal things?
Am I stingy with giving?
How have I seen God bless others from my giving?
Don’t be stingy with how God has blessed me.
Invest in eternal things often.
Be thankful that I can give.
Dear Lord, you have blessed me in order to be a blessing. Help me to not only see needs around me but also move to meet them. May I be generous in my heart as well as out of my pocket. You have blessed me beyond measure and let me never forget where all of my blessings come from…You.
