The evil one is always looking to accuse us before God. His goal is to gloat about our defeat and bring shame and dishonor to us and God. No matter how faithful we have been our flesh can be awakened with temptation to sin in an instant. There are more opportune times that the evil one or our flesh may be prone to tempt us to sin so here are a few more things to help overcome.

Be aware of your struggles. Everyone has some pet sin that derails them more easily than another. Temptation will most likely come to us in that lane first. It’s the point of least resistance idea. Know your weaknesses because the enemy surely knows.

Take care physically. When we are hungry or tired we are more susceptible to sin. Being physically fit affects our mental and spiritual well-being. Exercise and physical discipline will help in overcoming some of life’s spiritual temptations.

Focus on pleasing God. Don’t focus on the sin or staying away from sin, rather focus on pleasing God and drawing near to Him. When we are focused on pleasing ourselves, temptation and sin are just around the corner. When we draw near to God, He draws near to us. Stay focused and close to God!

Be accountable and responsible to others. Find a good and trustworthy friend whom you can call and share your burdens and struggles with. When temptations are becoming too difficult let your response be to call and pray; you have to be proactive.

Be submissive to Holy Spirit. When we take every thought captive and bring it into obedience to Christ, we will be more likely to resist. Becoming more sensitive to Holy Spirit and submissive to His leadership within will curtail some of the temptation we face.

Pray. Fortifying our minds in prayer with God’s Word is very helpful in battling temptation. It is essential to know God’s Word and hide it in our hearts if we truly desire to overcome temptation.
