“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
John 15:5 ESV

We are called to be a part of the vine. We are simply branches, not the vine itself. Jesus is the vine and we are a part of Him. I’m Him, He produces the produce. Jesus makes it happen, not us. We are simply the ones who bear the fruit. Apart from him, cut off from, away from, without Him, nothing happens. It’s all on Him as we are connected.
How do we remain a part of Him? How do we abide?
V10 says we remain in Him as we obey.
V12 says we remain in Him as we love.
V2 says we remain even though we are pruned.
Vance Havner once said “come apart or you’ll come apart”. He meant that it’s vitally important to take time to evaluate and reflect on life so as to know we are abiding in Christ.
How connected to Christ are you right now?
Is your world coming apart?
Can you set aside some time to come apart?
What fruit is God calling you to bear?
Are you trying to produce anything yourself?
